Summary of Progress:

Initial thermodynamic states, energetics, structures and micromechanisms active in transitions of complex metastable metallic systems to a more stable state were investigated from the viewpoint of spatially correlated distribution of rates of microprocesses controlling the transformation processes. Distributions and temperature dependencies of their activation energies were determined.
Internal complexity of disordered systems was correlated with the short-range ordering of atoms and with the formation of (nano)crystalline phases. A novel concept of clustered structure of amorphous state was proposed and it was shown that its inclusion into the general rate theory is necessary for exact description of transition processes in these systems.
Investigations of transport properties in model quasicrystalline aluminium-based system were successfully concluded. Unique anomalies of transport properties in aluminum-transition metal systems were discovered and correlated with the change of character of interatomic bonding and with the charge density distribution.
Novel systems based on Ni-Mn-Ga with giant magnetic shape memory effect were prepared by rapid quenching and investigated from the viewpoint of structure transformation and its correlation with MSM effect.
Special methods of thermal analysis were developed and applied to investigation of high-temperature thermodynamics of aluminium-based systems.
Amorphous and nanocrystalline aluminium-based alloys with increased strength were prepared on the basis of thermodynamic predictions and their structure evolution was determined.
A model of nanocrystallization kinetics was developed and generalized to soft magnetic alloys. Using a new device for measurement of magnetomechanical properties the evolution of important physical quantities was determined.
