Running Projects



1. VEGA 2/5098/25 - Investigation of the isotopic trends in nucleus-nucleus collisions around the Fermi energy


Project leader: M. Veselský


Investigations of the isotopic trends in nucleus-nucleus collisions around the Fermi energy will be carried out. The experimental data will be acquired in reactions initiated by several heavy ion beams with the light charged particles and intermediate-mass fragments being detected and isotopically resolved using a large acceptance charged particle multidetector array. Analysis of experimental nuclear multifragmentation data with the source mass of about 40 a.m.u.. will be carried out in order to explore the isotopic trends of light charged particles and intermediate-mass fragments as a function of the size, N/Z ratio, kinetic and excitation energy of the hot nucleus. The specific goal of the analysis will be the study of the response of the nuclear medium to the variation of isospin asymmetry at sub-saturation density, thus obtaining information on the equation of state of asymmetric nuclear matter and the isospin-asymmetric liquid-gas phase transition. The influence of the dynamical effects going beyond the framework of statistical multifragmentation will be investigated.


2. Project EU 6FP 515768 RIDS "EURISOL Design Study"


The EURISOL design study will produce detailed engineering-oriented studies and technical prototyping work for the next-generation ISOL Radioactive Ion Beam (RIB) facility in Europe. Such a world-class facility, complementary to the “in-flight” facility envisaged elsewhere in Europe, is expected to come into operation in the next decade. It will provide unique world-class research opportunities in nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics and materials science, and will supply new radiopharmaceutical isotopes. Institute of Physics participates in Task 10 "Physics and Instrumentation" and Task 11 "Beam Intensity Calculation". M. Veselský is the leader of subtask 1 "Heavy ion capabilities of driver accelerator" and subtask 6 "Heavy-ion reactions in the Fermi-energy domain" of the Task 11.

3. Slovak - Chinese Science and Technology Co-operation for years 2006 2007 project 3-05 "Investigation of nuclei under extremes of isospin asymmetry"


Project leaders: M. Veselsky ( Institute of Physics of Slovak Academy of Sciences ) and Yu-Gang Ma ( Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences ).


The project considers a Slovak-Chinese collaboration in efforts to investigate the dynamics in nucleus-nucleus collision at intermediate energies, revealing the properties of underlying microscopic interaction, identify optimum reaction scenario for production of exotic beams and prediction of achievable intensities. It is planned to explore existing experimental data, carry out an extensive comparison of computer code base used at IoP Bratislava and IAP Shanghai for the simulation of nucleus-nucleus collisions at intermediate beam energies of 10-100 AmeV, develop advanced computer code base optimized for prediction of isotopic yields of neutron-rich nuclei in the region of interest for production of exotic nuclei and astrophysical studies and use the comparison of phenomenological models to microscopic dynamical models in order to reconstruct the phase diagram of excited nuclear matter at densities both above (via pre-equilibrium emission) and below the saturation density (via multifragmentation).
